Some boat owners have said that marine electronics technology lags behind electronics technology for home and automotive products. Do you feel that is true?
Yes, marine electronics technology lags behind other markets
No, don’t feel that is true
A company that makes electronic equipment for boats is planning to introduce a new line of components that will enable boat owners to use voice commands to control their boat operations, including lights, pumps, valves, motors, etc. The system will be compatible with existing equipment and, using artificial intelligence, provides new technologies not currently available to the marine market. The equipment will be more robust than what is now being used for the home or automobile market.
Assuming that the pricing is competitive with existing marine electronic equipment, how interested are you in learning more about this?

The manufacturer estimates that this new technology would roughly cost about one percent of a new boat’s total price. That is, the cost for a boat priced at $500,000 would be about $5,000.
How interested would you be in a system at that price?

The system would also be available to upgrade currently owned boats. The cost to upgrade a forty-foot boat would start at roughly $2200 and the cost for smaller boats would be proportionately lower.

An add-on to an existing component would provide a cellular LTE uplink, allowing all onboard systems to store their information in the cloud, thus making the information accessible to owners from remote locations that have cell service. It would also enable GPS tracking, which could send a signal if the connection is broken, thus providing a security system, as well as enabling emergency alerts and remote control of devices, such as turning on bilge pumps. All at a cost of $275 plus a monthly service charge of $19.99

An additional add-on option for satellite capability would provide limited remote access in the event that cell signal is unavailable. The cost for this would be $200 plus a flexible usage-based monthly service plan.
